Super 8
J.J. Abrams serves as writer and director in this adventure that takes place in the summer of 1979 in a small Ohio town where a group of friends witness a catastrophic train crash while making a Super 8 movie. They soon suspect it was not an accident when unusual disappearances and inexplicable events begin to take place in the town. The local Deputy (Kyle Chandler) tries to uncover the truth—something more terrifying than any of them could have imagined. The group of young friends led by Joe (Joel Courtney) and Alice (Elle Fanning) discover that the crash was captured on the Super 8 camera and begin a quest to protect their community and each other from the danger lurking in their previously sleepy town. The film’s ensemble cast includes Kyle Chandler, Elle Fanning, Joel Courtney, Gabriel Basso, Noah Emmerich, Ron Eldard, Riley Griffiths, Ryan Lee and Zach Mills and is produced by Steven Spielberg, J.J. Abrams and Bryan Burk.
Super 8
The year’s most thrilling, feeling movie. SUPER 8 is as great as you hoped it would be.
Richard Corliss
Time

Geoff Boucher
Los Angeles Times
SUPER 8 packs the emotional punch of vintage Steven Spielberg with the spectacular effects and sense of mystery at which writer/director J.J. Abrams excels. The young cast—particularly newcomer Courtney and the impressive Fanning—is mesmerizing.
Claudia Puig
USA Today
This movie, a true beauty, will put a spell on you. Elle Fanning delivers a shooting-star performance that takes you places you don’t see coming and newcomer Joel Courtney is stellar.
Peter Travers
Rolling Stone
It’s been eons since a movie has conjured up such intense, specific feelings, images, memories, and nostalgic fantasies about American summertime youth.
Lisa Schwarzbaum
Entertainment Weekly
It’s hard to imagine a better movie this year.
Marshall Fine
Huffington Post
A love of movies infuses every moment of SUPER 8. Strong performances, well-developed characters, a believable emotional arc and genuine thrills.
Christy Lemire
Associated Press
SUPER 8 is a wonderful film. Abrams treats early adolescence with tenderness and affection.
Roger Ebert
Chicago Sun Times
The unforced performances of Joel Courtney and Elle Fanning are remarkable.
Carrie Rickey
Philadelphia Inquirer
A well-cast ensemble. The kids in J.J. Abrams’ science-fiction thriller are personable, funny, transparent and real.
