From director Gore Verbinski comes RANGO, featuring Johnny Depp in an original animated comedy-adventure that takes moviegoers for a romp in the Wild West. The story follows the journey of Rango (Depp), a sheltered chameleon suffering from an identity crisis. The aspiring thespian gets his big break when his terrarium crash lands in the middle of the gunslinging town of Dirt—a lawless outpost populated by the desert’s most wily and whimsical creatures. The denizens of Dirt are desperate for a hero, and Rango is quite willing to play the part, until things get…“complicated.” With an original script written by John Logan and a cast that includes Depp, Isla Fisher, Abigail Breslin, Ned Beatty, Alfred Molina, Bill Nighy, Stephen Root, Harry Dean Stanton, Ray Winstone and Timothy Olyphant, RANGO is a new twist on the classic western legend of the outsider who saves the town—and himself in the process.

★★★★
RANGO is some kind of miracle: An animated comedy for smart moviegoers, wonderfully made, great to look at, wickedly satirical. Its brilliant colors and startling characters spring from the screen.
Roger Ebert
Chicago Sun Times
In a world choked with animated films—the good, the bad and the ugly—it’s hard to be either original or great. Yet director Gore Verbinski has done both—breaking the rules and new ground in the town of Dirt.
Betsy Sharkey
Los Angeles Times
As smart as RANGO is, what most stands out is its simulation of light. With great cinematographer Roger Deakins serving as a visual consultant and visual effects headed by Mark McCreery, the refraction of light in RANGO may be the pinnacle yet in animation. Shadows fall through the saloon—with glowing amber glasses of whiskey (or ‘cactus juice’)—so authentically designed that one swears the room full of gun-toting varmits is real.
